5 Reasons to Love our Ergobaby 180 Reversible Stroller

Let’s start with this: not all strollers are created equal. First-time stroller shopping as a new parent can be overwhelming with a multitude of choices, price ranges, styles, and features. What’s a new parent to do?

If you haven’t heard the news, at Ergobaby we are releasing the 180 Reversible Stroller as an answer to this question.

This stroller was birthed (yes, couldn’t help it!) out of over a decade of listening to our first-time parents about their needs. Drawing on research in child developmental psychology, we’ve developed a list to help you understand the practical and developmental reasons our 180 Reversible Stroller is unique on the market.

1. Parent facing strollers, such as the Ergobaby 180 Reversible Stroller, promote healthy brain development in children.

Research suggests children are more likely to talk, laugh, and interact with their parents in strollers that face the parent or caregiver, according to the first-ever research study* on the psychological effects of buggies (strollers) on babies. Research suggests that the most popular style of strollers (facing away) may undermine children’s development.

Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk, a researcher in Scotland that studies baby development, notes in her research: “Neuroscience has helped us to learn how important social interaction during the early years is for children’s brain development. If babies are spending significant amounts of time in a baby buggy that undermines their ability to communicate easily with their parent, at an age when the brain is developing more than it will ever again in life; then this has to impact negatively on their development.”

Key research findings of these projects in the Talk to Your Baby early language campaign conducted by Dr. Suzanne Zeedyk, Developmental Psychologist at Dundee University’s School of Psychology, include:

  • Parents using face-to-face buggies were twice as likely to be talking to their baby (25% compared to 11%)
  • Mothers and infants, who had a chance in the experimental study to travel in both types of buggies, also laughed more frequently when face-to-face

Now, this isn’t to say that there isn’t value in facing away forever curious babies that want to see and explore the world around them (that’s why we give you both options!). But imagine that baby becomes overstimulated on a family outing and suddenly you need to see baby in order to help contain and calm her. With our stroller, simply turn baby back around to face you with the flip of a lever and have some needed and important face to face contact to help baby regulate and soothe.

2. It’s simple and easy to move from parent-facing to outward- facing.

Most reversible strollers on the market are considerably more complicated to move from parent facing to outward facing. Many require that a seat is removed or that your child is taken out. With our 180 Reversible Stroller, baby stays put. With the simple click of the handlebar, baby can face out towards the world or in towards you for some connection with parent.

3. No more fussing: collapse your stroller with only one hand.

Let’s be honest, most moms and dads could benefit from an additional hand or two! Juggling life responsibilities, baby, and more than one little one can be a lot. Our 180 Reversible Stroller collapses with only one hand, keeping your other hand free for whatever multitasking and parenting needs you may have.

4. Pair the Ergobaby 180 Reversible Stroller with a baby carrier of your choice.

Have more than one little one? We recommend babywearing your little and using our stroller for your larger child. Or, take turns between carrying and strolling and give both your little ones some 1:1 snuggles and exploration of the world. Continue to promote face-to-face intimate contact by facing your older child towards you and wearing your littler one. We’ve got the whole family covered.

5. Promote parent-child bonding with ease of parent facing option.

At the end of the day, we are about strengthening the bond between you and your baby. Whether through a baby carrier or our new stroller, we have options for you to stay connected to your little one while out in the world.

As with our carriers, you always have choices with Ergobaby. Our 180 Reversible Stroller promotes connection between you and baby while giving you choices for the position best suited to you and the whole family’s needs.

*About the research

The report, “What’s life in a buggy like? The impact of buggy orientation on parent-infant interaction and infant stress,” is a research study carried out by Dr. M. Suzanne Zeedyk in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust. The research was supported by a grant from the Sutton Trust.
