Annie Spano, Founder of StyleCollective

This week we are excited to introduce you to Annie Spano,  Founder of Style Collective.

After overcoming an abusive work situation with a woman who bullied her, Annie made it her mission to create a safe space for women to connect and help each other achieve success. She launched Style Collective in February of 2016 and it’s been amazing to see the message and positivity spread through the online world!

In a recent interview, Annie provides us with some of her insights that we would like to share with you.

What direction do you see the world of blogging going? What should we expect to see in the future?

I think that blogging is VERY important and you will start to see more blogs appear online, especially with Gen Z. Here is why blogging is so important for the future:

  1. It’s good for developing your personal brand, especially as millennials are shifting more into entrepreneurship and the embracing the gig economy. It’s not for everyone, but for those who want to be entrepreneurs, it’s very important to build your own brand. I like to think of a blog as today’s resume.
  2. It develops SO many skills! Marketing, branding, copywriting, planning, executing, analysis. You wear many hats as a blogger and these are skills you can leverage to launch consulting services or apply for a full time job as a social media manager.
  3. Influencers are more relatable than celebrities and more effective than traditional means of advertising. It’s the way of the future and both micro and macro influencers are equally important to the industry.

Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for new or aspiring bloggers?

First, you need to start with your end goal to make sure that every single step you take in your blogging journey is towards the right goal. Affiliate income, advertising and working with brands are not an end goal. They are one of the ways to monetize as an influencer, but I really stress the importance of defining your end goal as an influencer, such as writing a book, speaking at conferences, launching a product line, creating a monthly service, being a TV personality or a celebrity stylist. It’s important to create your own unique path that puts you in full control of your destiny. Don’t settle; be extraordinary!
